Aion releases September 22nd this year; it has been in existence in Korea for a year already, and rumor has it that there is a good amount of polish in the game- good signs! If you are a member of this board and plan to check Aion out- I preordered the game this morning- we ought to play on the same server (a roleplaying server if they have one). Perhaps we could have our own guild. Let me know what you think!

Provided I can get a new video card in my rig in the next month then I'll probably check it out. I'm not sure I can deal with another four man guild!

We can shoot for an 8-person guild this time, Oat! Or, do that until we find another guild to join...

I've been reading a bit about Aion this past week and I'm thinking it might be worth a closer look.
Against my stated position (and with a reluctance born of several disappointments), I'm thinking more and more about starting pretty close to launch and giving this one a try.
How's the game shaping up from your observations? Any thoughts on which class and faction you'll be playing first? I see that it looks like Lumiel may be the player-designated RP server.
By the Way! Thanks for the ongoing links and updates...both for this game and in general.

Sure Echo, glad to see you're interested- if it turns out to be a decent game, anyway I actually don't have any big expectations, but the fact that the game has been out for almost a year in Asia leads me to think that this one will have some polish on it at least. Also, I've seen more than one source comparing the 'PvPvE' fighting in Aion to DAoC's RvR...so who knows! It doesn't look like the perfect game for me by any means, but one worth a try. Lumiel looks like the most likely server to play on, a couple of us are favoring Elyos to play. I'll talk to some of the regulars here and post some more info soon! Edit: here is an initial impression of Aion post from Wolfshead, worth reading. He has both good and a few bad things to say.

My thoughts after first pass through the info I could find were: I probably would start Elyos with Cleric, Gladiator, or Chanter. As always, I'll try to resist altaholic tendencies. I'm actually thinking of exploring the crafting aspect pretty thoroughly in this game, the trade being somewhat dependent on which class I choose to create first.

Here's a quick rundown of what we've been chatting about via email lately:
Lumiel on the Elyos side- Cleric (me), Gladiator (Oatik), Ranger or Assassin (Rakul), Sorceress (Jaema)
Nothing written in stone yet, but that's the current thinking. As far as being an alt-aholic, it looks like Aion is somewhat grindy...
Oops, have to run, will have more later!

Chanter might fit for me and for the group. I picked up that Aion might be grindy. I've got some time limitations that I didn't used to have, so I imagine the alts would have to wait unless the Chanter was a total turn off. Early research indicates that this class fares quite well, with a varied set of uses...and perhaps a few concerns floating around about end game efficacy. So count me in for Chanter, Elyos, Lumiel...and we'll see what happens. I'm ordering it up tonight.

Excellent, Echo! ;D So far there's no plans for a guild or even a regular playing schedule, but we can discuss this if we find that Aion is worth sticking it out. Perhaps there will be a surge of enthusiasm and we can post an attempt at a regular schedule here

Possibly a legion later on, possibly not. Possibly find a larger legion to latch onto, possibly not. I hope it all works out to be a great experience. Besides...a legion/guild is kind of a destination...and we are travelers. Let the journey begin when it will...and carry us to...where it will.
