I like Symphony X. I'm a huge fan of Dream Theater though I love the Octavarium and Systematic Chaos albums.

This is probably not your musical cup of tea, but I really like the lyrics and the way they are crafted. Just give the lyrics a chance.

If any of you get a chance, listen to the album Horror Show by Iced Earth. It's a concept album they did and they made a song about all of the classic monsters. It's really cool (plus they're one of my favorite power metal bands). Here's a link to a YouTube playlist of the album. Below is a list of tracks. Their sound has hints of Iron Maiden instrumentally, but harder riffs.
