All links are from the Rift official forums: Mira's Minutiae"I went thru all the character creation for each female race. You cannot change the eye shape, but there are like 20 different eyebrows. 2 hair colors one primary and highlights; there are more hairstyles. There are spectrum bar colors to cursor over for choices of hair, eyes, gliphs, lips, and skin pigment. There is a height slider, but the camera would also move in and out when I used it, so it was hard to tell how much it changes, but I think they will fix that. The triangular morph seemed to really make some noticable changes in facial features, I liked it. You can widen noses and mouths, move the tip of the nose." Mira's Rift Gallery (on Picasa)Doc's Trion experience at gamerday "The PvP we did was a Warfront. Remember Scenarios from Warhammer? It felt a lot like that, but with better mechanics, and classes that didn’t suck. We did a round where we had to hold the fang of regulos, and as you held it, it would start to kill you and build up. Now this was similar to a Warhammer one, but with this added twist you only got full point’s f you were in the middle of the map. So this prevented camping because on the edges of the map you didn’t get very many points at all. This kept the combat fast and furious." The Unofficial Old School Server "If you are reading this post then perhaps you’re like me and miss the good old days of a friendly server community where conversation was welcome and mutual respect was always given. You long for a time when the ninja looter wasn’t heralded as a hero and the never ending racism didn’t drive you out of general chat. And most of all you always reminisce about the atmosphere you experienced on your particular server, for the people there were usually kind and everyone was an acquaintance to some degree. If any of this is ringing any bells then hear me out a moment while I propose something intriguing." Cleric class resources - overview and comparisons of each This is a great post gathering the basics together about each Cleric Soul. When you can be everything, you are nothing."It just seems like the solid bedrock of MMO fundementals have been forgotten in favor of just creating more and more action games with pretty graphics. Character identity and uniqueness is a foundation of a games world and community. If I have ZERO attachment to my unique character, I'm not going to play long term." There needs to be CHALLENGE for Rift to truely succeed"I notice that Rift is catering to the casual user, which is absolutely right, but I would plead with the developers to make sure they have lots of very difficult content that requires maticulous team effort to succeed - not just easy bosses. This is the stuff that keeps guilds together and keeps people playing - to beat that really hard stuff with co-ordination and teamwork." Challenge is good, but we need RISK "The risk involved, the sense of loss from failure, really brought the community together in Everquest. Without interdependence (focus in on the word dependance there) there is NO community."

It sounds like the PvP is going to be pretty good. I'm shocked, to be honest.
However, it sounds like the game might be a walkthrough elsewhere. No risk or challenge from mobs and bosses? That's no good.

There are different views of what gameplay will be like- in general, I'm expecting a WoW-like level of play, they're spending $100 million on this title and they're going to want a return on their investment, understandably. They've discussed accessibility of gameplay for a wide audience. I think they have a shot at challenging WoW (or looking at a million players, anyway). Lots of polish is in the game already pre-beta. That's led some people- usually game veterans- to worry about how challenging the game will be. We will see. I'm looking forward to seeing the game- good luck getting into beta, Rego!

View Poll Results: How old are you?The biggest category is 25-34 with 35%; 71% are 25 or older. " Unity Graphiz " - Post your requests here - A guy will make you a graphical Rift sig- nice! Account Security and You A good reminder for us all. The Safehouse: Rogue Discussion Thread An examination of what we know about the Rogue classes. Rift Developers: Request from long time MMORPG'erJust a suggestion here.
Whatever amount of time/xp you guys have determined it should take to get to level 50....double it. Let's go back to the days when getting max level was an accomplishment.I totally sympathize but I'm not holding my breath on this. Monthly Subscription DiscussionBasically this thread is to discuss how Trion can do the Rift subscription that would satisfy hardcore gamers and casual gamers. In other words, people who feel the subscription is too much as they don't play that often though love the game (or can't afford it). Also what kind of pricing sounds appropriate? 15 bucks a month? 10? 20?Freaking Teleporting Freaking Snipers!!!!I normally never play a Archer in an MMO but, seriously, teleporting snipers may change my mind! 2011 MMO ShowdownJust thought I'd try a quick predictions thread for 2011. I know we can't foresee the future but we can make educated determinations based on current knowledge and past experiences. In terms of potential success, assign a rank to the to MMO released and a brief reasoning statement to support your prediction. My Experience with Rift: Planes of Telara TodayOf course, the first step was character creation. I am very picky about my character. So I think I tried every option available to me before I made my final selection. And guess what, ladies? There were several hairstyles I liked! That's always the worst part for me. I want my hair to look just right! Why must we kill wow?lets all face it the only thing that will kill WoW is WoW itself.

I have to disagree with this, I'm sure plenty of people will level cap the first month and maybe it is too easy to level cap in Rift, but you stretch each level out and you've got an Aion like grind.
I think the real issue is if it takes 500 hours of gameplay to reach the level cap then it'll take a year if you play 10 hours/week and it'll only take 6 weeks if you play 80 hours a week. I guess this is where the idea for rest XP come from.

Aion had a grind partially due to lack of content as well- they had to patch in more quests for levels 20+. As long as there is lots of content, a game feels less grind-y to me. When I do max out a character, it seems to take me 6-7 months. That feels about right for me! Also, for a subscription game, you are defeating your own money-making plan if people level up in a month or two.

I don't mind a game taking me a couple of months to hit the max level, but if it takes me that long, the game had better be fun on the way there. If it turns into a grind (like back in the pre-expansion days of DAoC), then I'll move on to another game. Back then, there was an excuse for having such a hard time at leveling; no one had done anything better. There's no excuse for it in today's gaming world though, especially with the types of gamers that we have around.

Thread: Good job Rift teamNice beta launch, you guys set beta launches to a new standard! Wish you all prosperous years to come. Thread: Microtransactions - Expected, Resented, Dreaded?Just wondering whether anyone had heard them mentioned in any previews or hands on demos. Personally I hope not. I like to think that all subscribers are equal but I know that may be a little naive nowadays.Thread: The Shield/1h weapon = Defence tanks.Expect different things per tank class. The word "TANK" means they will be more defensive based. If say Paladin, expect a gimp heal, or say Reaver, expect some dots. Thread: The Unofficial Old School ServerIf you are reading this post then perhaps you’re like me and miss the good old days of a friendly server community where conversation was welcome and mutual respect was always given. You long for a time when the ninja looter wasn’t heralded as a hero and the never ending racism didn’t drive you out of general chat. And most of all you always reminisce about the atmosphere you experienced on your particular server, for the people there were usually kind and everyone was an acquaintance to some degree. If any of this is ringing any bells then hear me out a moment while I propose something intriguing. This thread is up to 42 pages now! Thread: Trion: The MMO market is prime right now! There is a vast market of people looking for great MMO to come to. If Trion does this right they can easily grab a pretty sizable hunk of this market.Thread: NDA is being broken left and right.Man it didn't take long but people are talking about this weekends beta like crazy. Just checking out the class forums I seen at least 3 threads with beta information in them. Thread: Trion Please Throttle all General chat channelsThe general population does not want to be exposed to or forced to interact with the extremes of society. Anonomous and extreme behavior always thrives in the channels normally intened for player use. These channels will never be self moderated by players. Thread: NO DPS or Threat MetersLearn to DPS without a friggin meterr. I am sick to death of raiding with ePeen kiddies who dont give a damn about beating an encounter and wipe their raids all because they had to spam their skills for maximum big numbers. I want to play an MMO. If i wanted to watch big numbers all the time i could just mash buttons on a calculator. How bout some of you go buy a calculator instead and let everyone else play the game. This thread is 257 pages long! Thread: Please do not allow characters of opposing factions on the same account...In a game with open-world, faction-based PvP it facilitates both cross- and same-faction griefing. It degrades the sense of factional loyalty that players should share. And it is a nigh irreversible design decision; if you prohibit it at launch, you can always include it later. But if you permit it at launch, how will you fix it when you realize that it is such a bad idea?Thread: Are the female chars supposed to be flat chested?Okthis is going to sound odd, but I am wondering what the design decision was on making female chars near completly flat chested. Friend sent me a screencap (which i won't link here) and I noticed the char was female, or at least was supposed to look female, could have been a skinny guy due to the lack of a chest on it. I am just curious any plans to fix this? Just seems a wee bit off when most female chars in almost all mmorpgs have a decent sized chest to them .

Thread: My RIFT beta #1 & 2 exclusive screenshots. Graphics all set to max!Nice shots! Thread: I feel that the death penalty system is too softIt worries me that some aspects of the game will not be taken seriously enough. But I play Vanguard and enjoy being slapped repeatedly in the face. Thread: Guess the release datePretty obvious question. My guess on the Timeline: Jan7-10th: Beta 3
Open Beta: Jan17th-Feb4th
Servers go live Feb 7thThread: Folks, the negative feedback is just as important, if not more so, than the positive. So, you're really doing Trion a disservice when you're attacking people who are putting forth criticism by calling them trolls, telling them to go back to WoW, etc. I've seen some brilliant posts with some real constructive criticism that's of real benefit to companies like Trion only to be met with a hail of derision and dispersions cast on the OP. It's unwarranted, and unfair, and if you really want this game to succeed you should refrain from doing so, or at the least meet them head on with well-thought out counter-points.Thread: Character Races (LOOKS)I love rift and have been following it for quite a while. I am however quite disappointed with how the races look. I don't know if there is not enough variation in the customization of these races or if some of them are just plain overall ugly in looks. Thread: BardAnyone that played a Bard last Beta that can fill me in on how it plays?Thread: 12 days of Riftmas! On the Twelfth day of Riftmas Trion gave to me 12 Trolls trolling 11 Footholds forming 10 Tanks not tanking 9 Nudists dancing 8 Souls Ascending 7 Ninjas looting 6 Joyous questors Five planar Rifts 4 Bags of loot 3 Dead Noobs 2 Fire squirrels and a Beta 3 invite key! Thread: Port Scion? Is it known if Port Scion will be a "dungeon" or a "normal" city?Thread: [Guide] A Warrior's SoulA great look at the different warrior souls. Thread: PvP Might Be Very Exciting and Shocking!Okay I just thought about it, using the thread about the soul system not working as food for though.. Mehh lol. I just thought about it, unless there is distinguishable armor to tell them apart, "which I severely doubt there will be enough armor to give a clue" you won't know exactly what you are about to face in a fight! Of course, there is enough to know whether it's a cleric, mage, or rogue, but there will be some blends that you just aren't prepared for. And you can't automatically say, okay that's a Holy Cleric, or that's a Wrath Warrior Priest, I've got to be prepared for this and this, and I have to do this such rotation! No, with the many blends, I believe there may be many instances we find ourselves shocked, and have to react to the spells and moves being thrown at us on the fly. I hope it does turn out this way, because this could make for a very rewarding PvP experience. Discuss. Thread: I agree, Rift is basically a WoW clone... But I LIKE it!First off, call me silly, but I actually like WoW. I have no complaints about it. Its still a fun game for me. I am however craving something new. New lore. New originality. New mechanics. New flavor. The only reason I stopped playing WoW is because my friends were playing other MMOs (ones I didn't care for).
So, I've been playing Beta 3, not very high in level yet (just hit 10) but from what I've seen so far, this is a good WoW-clone. I mean, some things are blatant. The trade window is almost a copy/paste. Interacting with in-game objects (loot, quest objects, etc) is also a good copy.
I'm all for borrowing things from other MMOs and "if it ain't broke, don't fix it", but can't we at least make this things LOOK different?
But when all is said and done, I'll be subscribing to Rift, because I liked WoW and it reminds me heavily of WoW, and I'm just craving something new (and I want to play with friends again).
