Useful commands:

* When you create a character, don't forget to assign the 30 points in whatever attributes you want to add to (Strength, Constitution, Dexterity, Intelligence, Empathy, Charisma).

* You can queue up one additional ability/attack while you are using another ability/attack.

* Casters and healers- remember, playing DAoC means you get interrupted by attacks. A lot. Use your Quickcast ability if you have one.

* When training your spec, remember that having a spec skill at 2/3 of your level will give you more consistent damage/healing in that skill line. Below 2/3 and the damage/healing will vary widely.

* You can autotrain certain skills; for instance, Rangers autotrain bows.

* On your stats interface, you can click the Commands button to see a handy clickable window with all sorts of commands on it.

* On the Commands window, click on Friends to add a small friends window so you can see who is online at a glance.

* To trade with another player, click on the item you want to give them and then click on the player (the item will be on your cursor).

* You can reposition items on the user interface by holding down Shift and click-dragging a UI feature.

* You can alter the transparency setting of UI windows by right-clicking on them and adjusting the alpha setting.

I recommend anyone who can autotrain, does. It's such a great boost in skill points by the endgame. It will be hard in the beginning, and you will probably have to spec differently until you're 40, but those extra points are nice. If you are a ranger who autotrained, you will have +12 in your bow by level 50, if you don't put in other points into it. The same amount is applied to any class who can autotrain.

UI info!
There appears to be a few UIs that are updated and being used. Bob's UI and EggiSohwyn's being names I recognize. Both have an option selector for dozens of window style choices.

I'm going to give EggiSohwyn's a spin since I used that one for years an years. I got hooked on Sohwyn's realm/info buttons and was struggling without them. Plus it's very easy to setup a minimalized UI cause cluttered screens drive me bonkers. hehe!

I think this is done automatically now, every time I've gone into the Skill assignment thing under Customize, the points were already distributed as per the class I'd chosen.

Yes, if you don't choose to distribute them yourself, the game with automagically optimize them for you. I chose to distribute them myself, but it took a bit of hunting to figure out how.

One thing about the optimization: Casters typically start out with low strength (40). That makes sense since they don't need bulgy muscles; however, when you start hunting, you remember that your strength attribute correlates with how many pounds of loot you can carry. An 'optimized' caster does not increase strength, but the difference between having 40 or 50 strength can make a big difference in having to sell more frequently when hunting to avoid slowing to a crawl.

Yeah, but are you going to gimp your caster by giving him strength, taking away from his casting speed, damage, and his health? If you really are hurting from having to make trips back and forth to sell, just have a bracer or ring or something in your inventory that gives a lot to strength. Then when you become encumbered, equip it to make your vendor runs.

I put 10 points each into Morreion's int, dex and str. Not sure how big an effect the starting points are at max level anyway When the vendor runs are far, a Mentalist feels it. It felt he was running as slow as molasses after playing a Warden with his 1st runspeed chant (which runs almost as fast as your garden-variety MMO character does in a typical game). I kept checking to see if he was encumbered!

I hate frequent loot runs, particularly if I'm very far from a vendor.

Remember we'll get horses at some point, so running isnt a big issue for long.

From what I remember for casters it goes - dex>>>int>con>everything else. For points, I'll sometimes put 10 points into health, since keens max out dexterity fairly easily. Elves have 10 more int, but keens get 10 more dex, plus they are small, cute, and ...keens are the bestest!!

Er, seriously tho, if you are concerned about trips to the vendor make a celt. A celt makes an unusual menty and have a good chance of being overlooked on the battlefield. Might be an interesting plotline being a magical celt.

I have no clue about horses in DAoC- I left before they came in. A Celt would be a nifty Menty, but we have absolutely zero Elves in the guild outside of Morreion!

I remember being guilded with a Celt Menty on Nimue who was the first level 50 Mentalism Menty there (if I remember that right) - Asuryan of Taithe na Manadh.
