DC Universe Online: The First Few Days
DC Universe Online launched this week and has been showing good numbers and server populations. MMORPG.com's Bill Murphy has been busily building his first character and has some observations about server populations, Legends PvP, server names and more. Compare notes with Bill and then leave us a few comments below.
Massively exclusive: A chat with DCUO's Chris Cao, part one
Chris Cao: We've opened up the new PvP servers because players are flooding the other ones. There's lots of good carnage going on with players mixing it up. We only released a few servers for PvP initially because we wanted to make sure they were nice and full, that way PvP is at its best. The players spoke, so we lit up two more: Cry for Blood and Blood Will Run, on PC and PS3 respectively.
Massively exclusive: A chat with DCUO's Chris Cao, part two
There's some ways to go, really. DCUO has a full gear progression, raid progression. You start off with the first set of gear; the [next set of] gear, you work towards that, and then you get a com badge for the Batcave 1, which is the first section of that raid content.
Alter-Ego: Let's get this character started (Massively)
There are six power types in DC Universe Online with two different forks per powerset. If you're out to stand toe-to-toe with your adversary and soak up damage, then Fire and Ice are the two that you'll want to look toward. If dealing devastating damage with some crowd-control elements is more your speed, then you'll want to look into the Gadgets or Mental abilities. Finally, for those who relish being able to heal themselves and others as well as doing damage, there's Nature or Sorcery.
DC Universe Online adds even more servers (Massively)
The newest servers -- four in all -- include two new PvE servers for North America: "Last Laugh" and "Relentless" on PC and PS3. Meanwhile, our friends in Europe are getting two new PS3 servers to enjoy: the "Justice for All" PvE server, and "Absolute Power" as a new PvP server.
DCUO Impressions (Keen & Graev)
What can you expect from DCUO?
A game where you can log in and jump out into missions quickly. It’s a game of constant action that makes you feel like a real character in the DC universe right from the start. The powers are fun, the missions are fun, and the PvP is just right for my style (even if frustrating when ganked). Some of the questing gets boring but on a PvP world it is broken up by lots of PvP and villainous acts. It won’t be a game that you get into deep character progression or one that has you logging in 15 hours a day like WoW, but there’s legitimately fun content for as long as it lasts. It’s a super hero action beat’em up with MMO elements near-seamlessly mixed in.
DC Universe Online: Some Concerns
DC Universe Online has been out in full retail release for the past week now. In his latest DCUO column, MMORPG.com's Bill Murphy has played the game for around twenty hours now and voices some concerns about the game. See what it is that wrinkles Bill's brow and then add your thoughts to the mix in the comments below.
Alter-Ego: Building a better costume (Massively)
The truth is, most of the gear you get (short of doubling back and picking up lower-level missions from people standing around in the street) is generally level-appropriate and will have roughly equal or improved stats. Sometimes it's really not a gear style or mix of stats that will fit in with your character's concept.
