The Daily Grind: How useful are your favorite forums? (Massively)
Game forums are interesting, at best useful, at worst nasty and negative. A vocal minority seem to post a lot on forums, distorting the opinions of the typical player. When people are into a game, they post a lot, probably from work. A half a dozen years ago, there was somewhat of a community feeling on the DAoC VN server boards, reflecting the in-game community there. That doesn't exist anymore. As time goes along, I find myself going to game forums less and less. There is a lot of cynicism and negativism there, reflecting a chunk of of the playerbases' attitudes (and addictions).
For my part, I've often wondered how many of my fellow MMORPG players spend much (or any) time on the forums. Inevitably during the course of a particularly polarizing discussion, someone will chime in to the effect of "only the hardcores even read these forums, 90% of the players are happily, you know, playing!"
