Aion Review (MMORPG.com)
I thought that 8.7 was too high a rating. Aion certainly is polished (having released a year ahead of time in Asia makes a big difference), the visuals are superb and the flying/gliding mechanic is great, but the grind was bad, bots and spammers abounded (perhaps they took care of this, but it took months, too long for those who got fed up and quit), and the Abyss- while a great idea in theory- was the only PvP area with mismatched levels (ranging from 25-50). It also bothered me that opponents 5 or 6 levels above you were essentially invincible.
Overall, the game was good but it had some significant flaws that this review doesn't get into much.

While the story is largely fluff, it does set the stage for Aion's main gameplay mechanic: PvPvE (Player vs. Player vs. Environment). While PvPvE largely focuses on faction-based PvP combat, it still manages to bring in plenty of PvE to add variety, and ensures that all playstyles will get some attention. However, despite its seamless and polished integration of both these systems, Aion still remains a conservative game.
To be straight-forward about it, outside of the flying system, Aion doesn't do anything that you haven't seen before if you're an MMO veteran, but what it does, it does well.
