Age of Conan was released with much fanfare in 2008 and, like many games since WoW, didn't do so well Funcom's rough release- the first 20 levels were quite polished but the next 60 levels weren't, and the use of instancing of whole zones to accommodate the great-looking graphics didn't go over so well. Bugs at release also took their toll. By all accounts and re-reviews, AoC has improved since release. It is hard to recover from a less-than-stellar beginning, though. But restless players making the rounds of old games have found fun gameplay there. Now, as AoC gets ready to release its first expansion, I'm checking it out again. I'm not sure how long I will last, particularly playing solo. But I have enough fond memories of previous play to look forward to walking the roads of Hyboria once more.
