Right now, I'm barely hanging on in WAR, and playing WoW again.
I didn't think I'd come back to WoW, really. The characters are cartoonish, the community left a lot to be desired. But...WoW is polished and very easy to run windowed, which I like (I'm a multitasker).
WAR, typical of many new MMOs, has performance issues- it's a resource hog on my PC and I can barely do anything else while its running. Optimization would be nice. I have to wonder why many new MMOs are like this, over and over again.
Otherwise, WAR has good RvR but that's it, really. When they say it's all about WAR, they aren't kidding. PvE is not developed, crafting the same, Public Quests are nice but all of the incentives have been to play scenarios, which is like waiting in an FPS lobby to play the same map or two over and over again. And again. And again. Mythic needs to round out and balance the game. The world is large- 3 fronts with 4 tiers each- the population is spread out so it seems you are often alone. People are in scenarios, I think.
It's just not clicking for me. Part of that may be for other reasons, but even in a good guild situation when RvRing (and that's most of the time) you can't really chat much. It's a constrained type of play that is far from a well-rounded world that I enjoy. Give me many things to do!
And I'm appalled at the lack of even token RP support in WAR. You can't even sit down. You could at least sit-cross-legged in DAoC and that was 6 years ago, by the Gods!
Which is why I'm back in WoW. I get used to the cartoony characters and ignore the ignoramuses, and the game is fun, well-polished, running smooth. You can interact with the furniture, can even sit in chairs and such. There are lots of gathering places for socializing. There are worse things.
I'm looking forward to some future MMOs in new settings- post-apocalyptic and sci-fi and such. I'm in serious need of a change of pace. Haughty Elves, grumpy Dwarves? Not again!
