It's been over three years since Vanguard: Saga of Heroes launched to a very rocky start. Many didn't think the game would last far beyond one, but here we are, celebrating the third anniversary of Telon! The last three years have seen many improvements to Vanguard, from new dungeons, to performance enhancements, to even letting the players choose which bugs the developers should fix.
Vanguard Celebrates Three Years of Telon! (Vanguard Players)
My very fondest memory was when I first did the waterslide in Leth Nurae.
I was doing diplo near the Bridge of Pure thought and slipped into the water. The current caught me and I tried to fight it! Briefly I was able to hold my own but unable to get back to solid ground. As I let the current take me again it flipped me over the edge of the waterfall and I thought. "I am going to die!' It seemed to take an age for me to fall down to the river below and my heart was pumping so hard I thought I'd burst! As I was falling I was taking in the magnificent scenery of the elven forest and could hardly comprehend whas was happening to me. I fell safely into the pond below and saw the drowning graphic start on my screen. I got onto dry land while avoiding the red mobs and was able to catch my breath! I did it again and again! I even walked right up to the very top of the slide so I would have the biggest ride possible! What a blast! I absolutely fell in love with the game that day!

Some thoughts on this Vanguard Anniversary! (Spouse Aggro)
My first real character, Rikoo Rakoo, was a small half man/half fox ranger type character and despite not being a fan of furry little critters, he quickly grew into my favorite character. Soon I was role-playing with him and made a set of rules to dictate how I play with him. Then I took over the Voyages of Vanguard podcast and it just kept growing. While I have always maintained many games and sometimes quite a few subs, Vanguard is that one game that I have the most vivid memories with.
First of all, the lands are so large that’s it’s easy to spend hours exploring, role-playing and traveling.
Then, the Lore is detailed and epic, and can be explained to you while you play a card-style game called “Diplomacy.”
Crafting is complex, similar to EQ2’s, and harvesting is organic and funner than in most games.
While I enjoy combat, it is never the main drive for me in games. That might explain why it take me so long to level. Combat in Vanguard is fluid and fun but not so challenging that it takes most of your time to get anywhere.

MMORPG.com re-reviewed Vanguard on its 2nd anniversary.
Needless to say, Vanguard is not the game it once was at release. While it is certainly not perfect, countless issues have been addressed. Content has been added, bugs have been fixed. The community may have shrunk since the initial first few months, but the passion that everyone displays for ‘their’ game is astounding. Galleons and fishing have made their way into the game, something players have been clamoring about for quite some time now, as well as numerous other additions which I’ll get into more detail about further along.
