The Daily Grind: Gone fishing? (Massively)Strangely enough, I don't fish in real life but I enjoy it in MMOs- it's a relaxing break from running around, but at the same time you are progressing (in fishing, anyway) or getting a practical side effect (food). It's even better when you have a chance to pull up some treasure from the depths (UO did this well- you could have a whole career as a fisherman there).

I liked fishing in UO, because it had some pretty good benefits when your level was high enough. If your fishing was 80+, you had the possibility of fishing up treasure chests from the bottom of the sea. Of course, those came with krakens, which could really put a hurting on a poor fisherman. That's why you took a boat full of friends and learned to sail like mad! I also liked fishing in WoW. It wasn't anything special, but it was fun. I like they they even had an epic quest portion to fishing (and just quests in general that required you to fish, or visit the auction house ). One thing I liked about fishing was that I could do it while I waited on friends to arrive. If I was already in town where we were to gather, I could fish and raise my skill a bit while I waited on everyone to get there. It was a fun little thing to do. I enjoy fishing in games, as long as the setting is appropriate. For games like Warhammer, fishing wasn't really an appropriate thing to have. The setting was too dark and gritty. There was no place for it. However it would have fit well in DAoC, yet we couldn't do it.
