The Daily Grind: Do you need the box? (Massively)I used to be a box fan- I wanted those disks, I liked the substantiality of them. But, much like books, I have too many of them sitting around taking up space now So, I am a big Steam fan now- buy and download the game directly. Now that is instant gratification. And their sales lately (EVE, VG, EQ2 for 5 bucks, just to mention the MMOs) have had me buying lots of old titles. I'm making the big switch to an e-book reader this year. I'm doing the same with game downloads.

I like the box. The reason being, is if I reformat my computer, I don't want to have to re-download the game. Games run a few gigs, at least, in size. That's a at least a day's worth of downloading before it's done. If I have the discs, then I can just pop it in and reinstall it. It's easier. Also, I like the box and booklet artwork. I like having that (I used to love the maps, but they don't do that anymore). I also enjoy collector's editions, because they usually come with game soundtracks, and I love music.

That's a good point about the maps. I still have the UO, LOTRO and Vanguard maps. That's one reason I still buy music CDs, for the album art and the lyrics and photos. But I am running out of room for books and game boxes >.<

Build you some shelves good sir. And get one of those giant, revolving CD thingies for your CDs. It's what I have had to do.
