I didn't know SWTOR was set for a 2010 release. Personally, I don't think it should be released then. I wonder if EA is pushing Bioware, like they did Mythic? I really hope not.
Edit: Upon further reading of the article, the author states that Bioware needs to publish the game before WoW's next expansion. That's rubbish. I hate when people say things like that. First of all, Star Wares and Warcraft are two totally different universes. It's sci-fi versus fantasy. It will not attract the same type of people.
Secondly, WoW isn't the be-all, end-all for MMOs. Everyone shouldn't be trying to beat it. It is what it is, and no matter what you do, you're not going to be the "next WoW" or the "WoW killer." Just do your own thing, and make a good game. If you're good enough, you'll outlast all of the rest.

This is so true. I think that Blizzard did several things that made World of Warcraft so successful. One was the intentional targeting of younger players in a very scientific way (based upon the physiology of brain development) and a spot on delving of the international market. They keenly observed the demographics of MMO players and designed their game accordingly to appeal to an expanded range of players. There is nothing inherently magical about WoW in terms of theme and substance. You can all name 3-5 IPs that are just as good or better than WoWs. The same goes for UIs, graphics, expansions, and RvR/PvP/PvE features. This is what the other developers routinely miss. Better ideas than WoW have failed because developers are looking over their shoulders and trying to copy it. The answer is just what Regolyth said: Forget about WoW and -> "Just do your own thing, and make a good game. If you're good enough, you'll outlast all of the rest."
