I played my new Shadow Warrior up to level 7 rank 6 yesterday, and thought I'd give you some of my impressions.
You can play on 2 designated servers under the free trial which is nice- you can play both Order and Destruction that way. You can have up to 10 characters on a server. You have the option to stream the game (smaller installation), or download the whole thing (larger installation). I picked streaming play and so far it really doesn't affect me much at all performance-wise. I only hit 1 lag pocket all day; performance was quite good. Graphically, WAR is not my favorite-looking game, but it will do for the trial, where you will mostly be doing the Nordenwatch T1 scenario and open-lake RvR (you'll be PvEing up to level 10, that is the cap).
They've revamped the Empire zone to accommodate the Endless Trial format- there are some changes but most of the familiar T1 zone is there- quests, public quests, familiar landmarks, etc. There is now 1 class trainer instead of a trainer for each class- at least I think there used to be a trainer for each class!
When you play the Nordenwatch T1 scenario- a fun RvR instance to take and hold 3 points on the map- you are temporarily boosted up to level 11 so that everyone is on a roughly 'even' footing, although your abilities and special attacks are still limited by your real level. The instances seemed to pop fairly frequently.
When you play open RvR, you are also boosted temporarily to level 11, a nice touch. There is a special rally feature now- if the capture points in the open-lake area of RvR are being captured from your side, you will see a rally cry go out and you can click the blue button on your interface to immediately transport you to the RvR action- very cool for this RvR-centered 10-level zone. I like it!
Overall, I like what they've done on the free game- largely because I liked T1 play, even if WAR the game didn't appeal to me as a whole. It is a nice casual diversion for occasional play, and I'm going to keep it on my hard drive.
