Some random handy info for those unfamiliar with LOTRO:
* When you jump down from a high place you don't take fall damage, you injure your leg and move slowly for a span of time. Fall a short distance and you have a brief limp. Fall a greater distance and you have a more persistent limp. Don't jump from great heights! >.<
* Visit a Bard in towns to manage your Traits- you'll get notifications when you complete a Trait. A Trait is like an involved quest that has you kill a good amount of things, visit a number of places, etc. They are associated with the zone you are currently in. The rewards are a bonus to your stats; to equip this bonus, or to shuffle around your Traits, you visit a Bard.
* Don't forget- when you visit your trainer, check for both active and passive skills to train.
* You can change the Titles that you earn so that any particular Title that you own will float over your head along with your name. These have no actual bonuses, they are for fun and RP.
* Open your character sheet- you'll see your adventuring gear by default. You have 2 templates of cosmetic (appearance) clothing you can wear- these are just for looking nifty. Click on those tabs next to your character to add clothing there. Clothing can be purchased from a certain merchant in towns.
* Morale is the name for hit points in this game. When you die, you 'retreat' to the nearest spawn circle. Visit a merchant that sells armor and weapons to repair damage to gear.
* Certain formidable enemies of the free peoples of Middle Earth will cause you to lose morale- this is called Dread. Basically, they radiate evil that causes you to quail in terror, and your hit points go down.
* You will on occasion find yourself in an instanced quest area, either alone or with your groupmates. You enter and exit these areas through the quest giver.
* You will earn Destiny Points by leveling up starting at level 10. These are temporary perks, such as greater amounts of rest experience and such.
* Enjoy soaking up the lore- this game is filled with it.
* You gain rest experience here- the longer you are logged off, the more you gain (up to a capped amount). You gain it no matter where you log out at. The blue section of your experience bar is the amount of rest experience you have left, where you earn more experience for killing things.
* Add on extra hotbars through your Options interface.
* Add friends to your friends list by typing /friend add name
* The open emote system works here! Type /em and then whatever you wish to emote.
* If you wish to save a log of your chat during gameplay, type /chatlog (this will toggle the recording on and off).
* Here is a list of all of the
commands.
* There are housing merchants near towns- yes, you can buy a house! They are in instanced neighborhoods. You can place furniture in and decorate rooms, and you can place objects in your yard.
