The Daily Grind: Naming and shaming?

This morning we thought we'd put it to you - what do you think of "naming and shaming" people who are rude/scam/etc? Do you think that this is a good idea and can be a useful tool to dissuade players from being jerks? Or do you think this is a poorly-advised idea, offering little beyond a chance for drama llamas to compete for fame - or should we say infamy?

Too much potential for abuse, as much as I like the idea of shaming wrongdoers...

Well, any control system can and will be abused by the unscrupulous but the truth of the matter is, if you are falsely marked as a problem the people who matter will know the truth, regardless of what the poll says. He's also dead on when it comes to people going out of their way to be a prick just to get on the list. Happens all the time, as dingleberries are often being dingleberries out of a desire for attention, giving them an award for it will simply redouble their efforts.

I do recall back early on in Nimue, non-roleplayers were nudged with an elbow (virtually speaking) when they would start going on an OOC tangent too far. It became somewhat of a game where someone would do something OOC and the roleplayers would banter it around IC for a while.
