Jaema found this review from Salon.com for How Fiction Works by James Woods. After examining it at the library, I've put it on my book list. I don't know about everyone else, but I could use some coherence in my approach to writing better, and this book looks interesting. For example, free indirect style is discussed.

I had this from the library at a really busy time so I didn't get to finish it but plan to get it out again. He spends a lot of time talking about point of view and voice - something I struggle with. And offers numerous examples as he discusses.
A side note - his own writing style is often lyrical and has a decided fiction tone, for a non fiction toolbox kind of a book. I was pleased by that.

Honestly just reading the review hurt my head a little. Although there is plenty of room for improvement in my writing!
