It has indeed been a "far journey" since I was here, although I do admit to lurking very infrequently. I had some life business to take care of, but now things are settling down to where I can do some gaming. I hope that you all have been well. It is good to see that this place is still rolling along.
I have done just a bit of gaming these last few years. I think I quit and restarted WoW several times, had a bit of fun on Guild Wars 2, messed with Eve Online a bit, and played SWTOR of and on for a couple of years.
I've got a little more time on my hands now (closing in on retirement) and believe it or not I've started playing DAoC again. I am actually having a blast, although the game and the community are much different that they were...what was it...eight years ago. I'm playing a class I never played much before, a Warden, and having a great time despite being poor, homeless, and often clueless.
It's just my opinion, but none of the modern games really hold a candle to DAoC...even now. I don't know much about Broadsword, but it seems to me they are really trying to make some changes that will help the game survive. The game is both different and the same. It's much more "international" at this point. I typically will encounter German, Italian, Spanish and especially French on a session. It seems many people are coming back. It may just be insecure talk on the part of some of them, but I would guess that one in three people I encounter is returning after a layoff of several years.
The days of "Nimue grade" RP are long gone. However, I do still see a lot of RP labels on characters and there are still a lot of helpful and "fun to play with" people in game. Just this afternoon four full groups formed a battle group and cleaned the Mids out of DF. I (level 30) was actually added to a straggler group just for bubble and damage add chants. It reminded me of the first time Kalyce was invited out to Old Frontiers.
I hope all are well. Thanks Gack/Morreion and friends for keeping this place going.
Echo,Kalyce, Paradis ... and a thousand alts.
