I was speaking with my wife one day about how ingenious Super Mario Bros. is. It's very cleverly crafted to ease you into figuring out how to play the game - in an age when most people didn't play arcade games, let alone console games. The other day I cam across the video, which was speaking about the very thing I was talking to her about. It goes into detail about what I was saying and much more. I thought it was really interesting and could be appreciated by this community.

Now this is cool! I never thought about it, but they did a great job with an intuitive tutorial...it was fun watching this!

I think that back in the days of NES and Sega, they really did think about things like this. They probably did when the next generation of consoles, N64 and PS, launched as well, since we delved into the 3D realm at that point. I don't think this kind of methodical thought goes into most games these days - I don't know that it needs to, but it probably isn't even given much consideration. I think that when games in today's market are given this much thought, you know it. I think a game like Limbo or Machinarium does.
