The Daily Grind: Are MMO gamers aging out of the genre? (Massively)In a recent report, Resident Evil developer Capcom claimed that its playerbase's average age is inching upward and its core users are in their late 30s and 40s, making for the "increasing possibility that some percentage of the existing users will outgrow games altogether."
...Perhaps armchair demographers are wrong and the future holds the promise of retirement homes filled with gaming rigs and World of Warcraft IV. What do you think -- are classic MMO gamers slowly aging out of the genre? Is MMO gaming something we "outgrow," or is it something we're ultimately pushed away from?Comment: I actually find it offensive how games are considered to be a juvenile format of entertainment that one "outgrows". When I get sick of all the reality show crap on TV and cop dramas do I "outgrow" it or just get bored of it? I think games as an entertainment medium deserves more respect it's just as mature as movies and TV Imo.
Game developers need to be honest. We aren't outgrowing games, we are just getting bored of the same sh*t we've been doing since Ever quest.

The commenter hit the nail on the head. That's exactly what I was thinking as I was reading the article. This is the same argument that I have made several times on this forum, so I'll refrain from doing it again. Also, we (gamers) just run out of time to play games. We get graduate, we have full-time jobs, we get married, we have children, we plant gardens ( )... things change. It's not that we don't want to play games, we just run out of time to play everything like we used to. I can't run ten hour raids every weekend anymore. My wife would kill me. I still like to play games, and do, I just can't waste time on crappy games anymore. I have to find a true gem and stick to it. I can't play five games at once anymore. It's really a combination of things I guess. I really hate when people think that video games are only for children and teenagers. If that's the case, then they really need to quit making games like Call of Duty, Resident Evil, Grand Theft Auto, etc. Children shouldn't be playing things like that.
