my grillfriend and I have been getting into Japanese monster movies lately... I used to love these when I was a kid, every friday night in 3rd grade was picking out a new Godzilla/Mothra/Ghidorah movie from blockbuster with a few friends and having a big bowl of popcorn on the floor, but when we moved back to California we stopped renting them and I drifted away. My favorites were always the ones where old enemies had to ally together to fight off some even bigger and nastier threat. The whole idea of humanity being almost helpless pawns in some vast struggle is so kickass and such a relief from all the patriotic/egotistic American action scifi
anyone else have favorites? or memories?? tonight's feature is gonna be;
I AM VERY EXCITE

The original Godzilla, King of the Monsters is a favorite of mine. Memories in black & white, with Raymond Burr, the first rampage of the nuclear-spawned nightmare in Japan!
My best friend remembered this film from his childhood and tracked it down and he made me watch it. Not bad!
I've always been a fan of B movies- anything by Roger Corman, Hammer Films and such. I like off-beat flicks with interesting atmosphere. For instance, a young Dennis Hopper tries to help a woman who thinks she's a cursed mermaid:

It's not my favorite movie... in fact, I don't know that I could tell you what actually happened in it. But I do remember being a kid at a friend's house and seeing this on TV when I was about 5 or 6. And it left a lasting impression!

Hehe... I remember watching those as a child. I wonder if my parents liked them, or just sat through them with me? It's movies like those that probably spurred my interest into anime in my teens.

I remember my mother saying that The Thing From Another World was quite scary in its day!
