I can't tell you how excited I was to stumble across this message board when doing some idle searching on old toon names tonight and they brought back some wonderful memories. You've done a wonderful job archiving your experiences...I'm especially fond of the LOTRO pictures as I played there for several years before hanging up my minstrel (around the time it became freeplay).
What games are you all currently playing?

Greetings Eleonry, welcome! Thanks for the kind words, I put this site up because I hated the thought of lots of images, stories, memories and such fading away or disappearing for good as old game forums went offline. Add to that the fact that current MMOs have nowhere near the communities of the Games Of Olde (I know, it's an old point, I can hear some eye-rolling going on from those who've heard it a lot from me). Turnover in current games is pretty rapid compared to the DAoC days for example. Every once in a while someone drops by who remembers those days and it's great to hear from them again! I was playing Rift until the end of last year, now I'm currently waiting for GW2 to release. TSW and any decent sandbox game that comes out will be of interest to me as well. There's a few of us (me, Rakul, Oatik, Jaema) that try out games together, and some others that you'll see occasionally- such players as Ariesel, Grigorian, Sinaedh, Loendal (Popo), Elethea, Cirig, Laethaka (Asuryan), Dortmunder and Gidgiddoni will pop by sometimes. We used to have a group that played in LOTRO back before it went F2P, Arie and Grig may still be playing there? Feel free to post here if you so desire- old stuff, new stuff, whatever you'd like. I'd be happy to create a story sub-forum for you. Welcome again! Edit: here's an old sig image I made with one of your characters on it:

Thanks - that's awesome you guys try out new games together. Don't know if any of you remember them but my husband Ryan (who was Kilthas in DAoC) groups together with some of the old players from Albion Percival such as Serapis, Saenek, and Nerhesi in various different games (Battlefield, etc). I'm afraid all my old stuff (writing, screenshots) were lost a long time ago to an unfortunate computer crash which was why I was thrilled to see your stuff here. I don't really do much writing anymore and any games I play anymore are far and few between to generate any interest in roleplaying or fan fiction. I kinda miss those days in DAoC where a game could be that inspirational, you know? I was tempted to reactivate my DAoC account a week ago when they had the promotional running but gosh, I have no idea if my toons even exist there with all the server changes and I have no idea what servers they would be on at this point. I went to Camelot Herald to try to look it up but it looks like they disabled that functionality. :/ Ryan and I have been playing in closed beta of Tera which has nice graphics but feels alot like just about every game NC Soft has ever put out (you know it's Korean if you can see the panties on your toon when she's running I guess...hahaha ) I guess I'm just holding my breath for the next "great thing" in MMO's. I thought LOTRO was it for a long time but when it got to that "WoW factor" point to me (i.e. vicious catch 22 of having to play to get the best armour = have to have the best armour in order to play (dread)), it greatly diminished interest as exploration of the world was fascinating to me, especially in how true it remained to Tolkien's stories. Remember the first time you saw Rivendell from up on the clifftop and its swell of theme music? It was breathtaking.

I don't want to be an enabler or tempter... well yes, yes I do, really... but... old DAOC characters should still be there on archived servers. All folks (who are not on Mordred (I estimate 3 hard core pvp players are there) or on Gaheris) play on one giant cluster (appropriate) called Ywain now. It is not horrible, but it isn't the old times, either. However, I can't seem to control my addiction to the battles between the realms. Anyway, just to let folks know, old chars should still be around... they'd have to be transferred to Ywain, but they are sleeping somewhere.

Eleonry, I remember Kilthas! So sorry you lost data in a computer crash, that would be horrible...I'll look for some old DAoC images and do some future posts on the good old days.
I know the lack of inspiration feeling in modern games...I was much more inspired to write in the old titles.
Sinaedh is still in DAoC after all these years, very cool! I tried going back a couple times, but one big impediment to me was the Catacombs graphics engine update. I understand it looks better than the old one, but my memories of Camelot are of the classic & Shrouded Isles engine. My characters looked too different in the new engine, so I just couldn't do it.
The gang here made an excursion to Uthgard, a DAoC free shard a couple years ago. I'd consider going back if enough of us here would return.

Sure! Here's the board from when we played Uthgard for a while in 2010: farjourneys.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=daocThere's some stickies to look at on how to DL it and such. Uthgard is hosted in Germany and is sort of a classic DAoC shard with the updated engine. I think there was a 20% experience bonus. From what I saw of the community there, it was pretty decent. We ran a group there for a while, but gradually we lost members and the project sort of fell off. It was a pretty good experience though!

Sihnnead!! welcome!!! Most of my daoc screens were lost when msn groups restructured... but you're definitely in the chatlogs at farjourneys.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=campfire&action=display&thread=1464I'm currently tooling around in Spiral Knights a couple hours a day. The endgame content is a little sparse but the people are great and it's a nice break from the horribly complicated & predatory free to play mmos I work on. Also loving the FreeSpace 2 mod community and a lot of iphone games. been meaning to get back on Uthgard. I'd mostly have weekends and evenings free (west coast time). I'm only ~Lv 5.
