I tried playing that... I think I still have it floating on my hard drive somewhere but it crashed constantly; I couldn't tell a wall from a player and I had a heck of a time getting anywhere or doing anything.
I'm not feeling the love... Heh.. Get it? Feeling the love! HA! I kill me!
Ok... I'll go hide in a corner now...

;D
It was an interesting experiment. I'd like to see someone combine a traditional MMO sandbox with Minecraft and see what happens.

;D It was an interesting experiment. I'd like to see someone combine a traditional MMO sandbox with Minecraft and see what happens. Two positive notes there.... 1) Notch said he'd release it as open source or some other free distribution when it's popularity dies down and 2) I already said, even back in Alpha, I could easily use it for an MMO base! It's got all the stuff I wanted so far as the world interactivity is concerned. The ability to make entire underground domains if one was so inclined is right there, ready to go. Building anywhere is the norm, and unfettered creative functionality is pretty rampant. I think that's one of the reasons I fell in love with that game. It's got all the 'good' stuff I wanted

The best thing about Minecraft-style sandboxes is that gamers have something to do other than killing mobs and each other. Non-combat mechanics are vastly underutilized in MMOs. Usually combat is what one does 90% of the time, with some crafting on the side (and often rudimentary). Building adds another dimension to play, player-created content is a good thing...the only thing holding this back are those players who push the envelope and make socially inappropriate content and ruin it for everyone. That's the hurdle that will be difficult to overcome.

I got Homeworld: Cataclysm back in the day and while it wasn't bad- it had some new units and such- it wasn't a spectacular game like Homeworld was. Maybe the story and cutscenes weren't as great? It might be worth a try. For myself, I'll be happy to find my Homeworld disk, I know I saved it!

Homeworld 2 seemed like the original Homeworld, but with a better control system. I haven' t played either of them through to completion though. One thing that I always loved about Homeworld was the musical score. That game made excellent use of it's music and it always seemed to fit the cut scenes with a precision I have yet to see rivaled anywhere. They won awards for their music and had a CD Released. I have the CD and ripped the music off to mp3's
