I ran across these pictures from September of 2003 in my batch picture files that I saved from DAoC. This is Magnoliah's wedding, taking place in the housing neighborhood owned by members of Clan Suilebhain. Thoughts: The housing area looks quite nice. The housing area was one big zone added in as a free expansion a year or so after release. I think they allowed you to do too much in your house (crafting stations, porting to the healer and merchant there) so that the towns became deserted which was a mistake, but I liked the RP/storage/decorative aspects. Check out the yard decorations and customization. Housing adds to the virtual world aspect of gaming. I don't understand MMOs that do not have housing, really. It's one of the characteristics of MMOs in my mind. It makes even non-sandbox games more world-like, it adds to the customization experience, and it probably keeps people around longer. Funny to see significant groups of people RPing for hours at a time away from 'playing the game'. This is increasingly rare these days. I'm trying to remember if I've seen anything like it in Rift this past 6 months, and all I can think of is the occasional small group of people standing around RPing at an inn. I miss those days. By the same token, communities of people outside of one's guild seem to be vanishing. This is perhaps the biggest thing I miss from those days.
