Dragon Raid, DAoC 2004

Early in the game, slaying the dragon in DAoC was a big deal. It took quite a bit of effort. As the game matured and other raids were added (particularly with the Trials of Atlantis expansion), it wasn't such a huge deal anymore. But who could forget their first dragon raid? Mine was in Albion, and we were completely wiped out by the foul monster.

Getting to the dragon could be an adventure in itself. There was lots of aggro along the way, making this a raid-level effort.



Once there, the raid leader would sort out the groups, and who was doing what when.



The fight could take a while. Raids could be wiped out. Strategy helped...though I forget the details now, unfortunately.







Dividing up the loot after a successful dragon-slaying. Careful or the cranky reptile could pop on you! I remember respec stones being very coveted drops from the dragon's hoard. Fun stuff.

I remember when Dartmoor was new, we were killing giants (which I personally thought were pretty hard), and had no idea what happened initially when the dragon flew over.



I think one of my favorite things is the insults Golestandt would yell as he killed people (even if spelling/grammar was not perfect).

This is not a dragon raid, simply us going out to see the beast:



Of course, seeing and surviving were not the same things!




I'm not sure why Golestandt needed giant backup, but... he had it.

Dartmoor, that was it! I agree Sinaedh, I thought Dartmoor was a challenging area- Sheeroe Hills was the Hib counterpart. Ahh, the good old days of classic / Shrouded Isles DAoC!

In addition, Dartmoor also seemed tougher to get into the heart. Mobs appeared to have a larger aggro radius.

Something else I didn't remember- though I had the impression that Dartmoor was tough!
