Tomorrow is the official start. The last 4 days of head start has made me feel very positive about the game.
The queues can be frustrating, but this will die down after a while. Every MMO these days goes through this. Patience will be rewarded!
The starting zone really felt like WAR. Pretty standard gameplay there. I was pleasantly surprised to find Silverwood- the next zone- to be spacious and interesting. If you don't care for the starting zone, it gets better. The visual composition and the landscape is well-done.
The rifts are a blast, and give you a pleasant break from the questing grind. Invasions are awesome, and can happen anywhere. I never feel like I'm competing with the players who show up at a rift. As a matter of fact, you welcome them when the rift is higher level than you are.
I was also pleasantly surprised to find that I liked the capital city of Sanctum. There's lots of colorful areas there. Argent Glade was a solid town as well. I would have liked to have seen more interiors and doors that work, but nothing's perfect.
The soul system is very engaging so far. It's fun checking out all of the possible angles and ways to combine them.
The game performance has been flawless for me- no lag whatsoever, even in big crowds, and good framerates (typically 30+ FPS running on ultra setting.
I'm impressed with the polish that the game displays.
The armor and clothing look good. I'd like to see a little more variety.
One annoyance- all of those darn giant turtle mounts *laughs* They are big and can block things you are looking for. What an ugly mount!
Overall, I think Trion has a winner on its hands. I would not be surprised at all to see Rift break a million subscriptions.
