The Daily Grind: Why don't you like roleplaying? (Massively)Whether or not you take part in large-scale roleplaying, today we ask -- what don't you like about it? If you're a non-participant, does it seem like too much work for too little reward? If you RP regularly, do you dislike the inter-player drama that so frequently results?I'd have to say that personally I've seen too much player drama and conflict involved in RP. In a way this is understandable, since RP is by its nature a social activity, so you'd expect more friction. Still... Article comment: In MMOs, I have to navigate WASD movement, camera rotation with the mouse, combat is often fast and furious and requires proper skill selections or rotation, situational awareness is important to see what's aggro'ing what, what needs healing, debuffing, tanking, damaging, and getting out of the fire... and some folks still want to converse amiably in character while my player brain is busy metagaming tactics? Can't do it, my brain just sizzles and I find it infinitely easier to keep my mouth shut and nod.Certainly MMOs mechanics-wise are not very RP-friendly.

I think the key to one comment is you shouldn't be out doing all those things while trying to seriously RP. Not that I like to stand around and RP for very long but I don't think anyone starts a detailed RP story in the middle of a dungeon run.

Heh, I nattered away IC in fights all the time! Never really tried creating any massive details or any kind of story-arc in the thick of it though, but by golly if Popo didn't holler "Boom!" every once in a while during a fight I just didn't feel right
