Crafting in Rift : Part 1 – Reader Submitted Q&A (Ten Ton Hammer)
Rift devs crack open the recipe book on crafting, rarity, guild benefits, and augments.
Adam Gershowitz: There are definitely four subsets of recipes. There is obviously the trainer ones, which are bare bones and designed to get you through the game. Then there are the dropped ones, which are your open economy recipes. Finally, as Gina said, there are the faction recipes and the Artisan store, which are rewards for doing crafting daily quests, which are more of a personal thing. You won’t be able to go to the auction house to get that particular recipe; you’ll have to put the effort into crafting to get a hold of these recipes.

We don’t have your crafting skill based upon your adventuring level, so you can technically be level 5 and have a max skill of 300. That being said, the higher level resources and materials that you will be using will be in higher level zones.
Professions, Gathering & Crafting (Rift Nexus)
A good overview from last August-
When browsing through some of the recipes at Gamescom, I saw more than one instance where one crafting profession had a recipe that required materials from another crafting profession, so there will be some amount of synergy between crafting professions it seems.
Includes a couple of video clips.
From the Rift official forums:
Thread: Crafting?
My simple question is basically is there crafting in the game? The nerd in me loves to do crafting but I can't seem to find any information on it. Thanks!
Thread: Crafting Info
I know the NDA was lifted less than 12 hours ago but is there anywhere to get some good crafting info about this game?
Thread: Lack of deep crafting makes me sad
And it seems it's another MMO that's just collecting some basic materials and just clicking "create". I was hoping for something more like Vanguard or Star Wars Galaxies. *Sigh* I'm just hoping the report is not accurate and Rift has something better in store.
Thread: Crafting Review, Spent more than 5 minutes
A lot of the reviews of crafting I have seen are from people who spent approximately 5 minutes looking at the system and making their decisions. I spent a good chunk of time in Beta 2 raising my crafting skills in Weaponsmith, Outfitting and Artificing. I reached ~90 in each skill level before all of the recipes available to me became trivialized. I explored other crafting fields in lesser duration as well. I'm not saying the system is perfect (specifically the act of crafting itself I think is way too simple and braindead) but it's a lot better than many people would lead you to believe.
A nice writeup!
