Lore (Telarapedia)
Good one-stop page for links to lore throughout the Rift game.
The History of Telara (Telarapedia)
"The world of Telara exists at the nexus of the planes. The Vigil, Telara's founding gods, sealed the world with a magical Ward to keep it safe from Regulos the Destroyer, Eater of Worlds. But the magic that keeps the Ward in place has been compromised, creating dangerous doorways between Telara and the planes. These doorways, or rifts, have the ability to grant otherworldly powers to those brave enough to seize them, but they also threaten the very existence of Telara."
Timeline (Telarapedia)
Events from the Age of Legend to the Fall of Port Scion.
The Bloodstorm (Rift official site)
"The Blood Storm roamed the cosmos, cracking worlds for their sourcestone like marrow from living bones. Their trail of annihilation led them to Telara, and in the forms of vast dragons, the Blood Storm fell upon our world in a frenzy of greed.
The dread gods unleashed disasters and monstrosities of every sort. Wayward mortals even joined the dragons’ cause, willing to unmake the world for power and a place under those great leathery wings. Telara trembled on oblivion’s brink, before the Blood Storm splintered, driven apart by their awful natures."
The Eth Empire (Rift official site)
"As our society bloomed, each of the tribes settled in a great city, bound together with oaths of confederacy. Mkhai stood unmatched in harnessing sourcestone. Khaliti was the city of craftsmen, peerless even among the Dwarves. In Arkeen, we Eth worked wonders with life itself, and great Catari shone above all the rest.
A sorcerer-king ruled every city, ally and peer to his fellow kings, each free to explore the reaches of possibility as they saw fit. In polished sandstone towers, amid the thunder of great machines, these geniuses crafted tiny worlds of living diamond, enslaved the paragons of the planes, and built weapons that could slay bloodlines with a flick of the wrist."
Asha Catari - The Rift Walker (Rift official site)
"Asha awoke, gasping for breath, within a machine in the Shadowlands. Orphiel Farwind, her mentor and friend, stood beside her, looking at her with an expression of triumph. He explained that he had used the technology of the ancient Eth to return Asha to life, and that she was merely the first of the warriors he planned to return. He asked her to be his champion and second in command, continuing the work they had done within the Dragonslayer Covenant. Asha agreed, but admitted much of her motivation sparked from a desire for vengeance on Regulos. Orphiel realized this was not the same young woman he had sent to Zareph so many decades ago. Physically, Asha had changed, covered in glyphs of power that flared up on her skin. She was also calmer, quieter, and intensely focused. The headstrong, reckless girl was gone, and in her place was a being that was no longer quite human."
The Guardians (Telarapedia)
"The Guardians represent the sincerest belief that the Vigil, the five gods of Telara, have not abandoned the world, but are working towards an intricate plan for the final battle of good against evil — the Day of Judgment. Members of this faction feel they have a destiny to fulfill as part of a divine plan to save the world."
The Defiant (Telarapedia)
"The Defiant do not care whether the gods abandoned the world or not. To them, this entire planar convergence disaster is the gods' fault in the first place. Indeed, as soon as things went from bad to worse, the gods suddenly and inexplicably disappeared. So while the Guardians run around Telara building temples, sticking their noses in everyone's business, and desperately praying for a miracle, the Defiant plan on actually delivering one, even if it means being branded as heretics and operating outside the laws of the land."
The Gods (Telarapedia)
The Gods of the Bloodstorm and the Gods of the Vigil are in constant conflict.
Tales of Telara (Rift official site)
"Telara’s stories are of Guardians and the Defiant, mighty Ascended and determined mortals — even the cultists and beasts in service to the Blood Storm have their say. What horrors are poised to spring through the rifts? What perils await the denizens of this scarred and desperate world?"
