Exploration and collectionsE3 2010: Hands-on with Rift: Planes of Telara (Massively)"Explorer types are rewarded with experience for discovering new areas, as well as a collection system." Scott Hartsman worked on EQ2, so the collections system there is a good model for what may be coming in Rifts. I always liked collections- they were fun and addictive, seeing that shiny thing on the ground that you just had to grab!

You and me both, Arie! Cost & InvestorsRift will cost around $100 million dollars to make. You can buy a lot of polish for that kind of money! Trion World has some heavy-hitter investors such as Time-Warner, NBC-Universal, and some venture capital firms behind them. They are not hurting for money.

Server Rulesets- yay, RP servers!Rift Fans Get Some Answers at Trion's Gamer Day (Zam)Q: Will there be server rule sets like PvE and PvP? Will roleplaying be enforced? Hartsman: Roleplaying is not something you can really enforce with rules. We have two tags: RP and PvP. Servers can have no tags, which is a standard PvE server, or they can be RP, PvP, or PvPRP. ;D ;D ;D

I wonder how well this will go, with the non-enforcement of the RP ruleset?

At least there will be an RP designation to allow RPers to know where to go- that's more than many games do these days

NamesRift: Hands-On Preview (MMORPG.com)Avatars will only have first names because of the great number of titles they have in game. The final decision on whether they will have a last name has yet to be made.

I really hope they add last names. One thing I didn't like about WoW was the fact that you only had a first time. I really liked how DAoC did it, where you could purchase a last name from an NPC in your capitol city once you reached level ten. Or, you could go without a last name. I liked having the option.
However, I do understand why they wouldn't allow last names, given the fact that a lot of people will want titles as well. That will make for a very long name on the screen. But then, they could do it like Warhammer. In WAR, your first and last name appears on top of your title. And you don't have to have a last name, or even a title. I like having those options. I really disliked having being forced to wear a title in Aion.
