From the Rift Feature Guide:
* There is PVP.
* Faction based, there are two factions. The differing factions cannot team up or guild
* PvP will be completely consensual on PvE servers.
* There are "battlegrounds/scenarios".
* You can level with PVP, but you will need to some PVE.
* For faction population balance "...they intend to make up the player deficit by introducing NPCs where necessary."
* Servers could "potentially spawn RIFT events that encourage TEMPORARY and LIMITED world PVP"
* Full PVP server may see "ton of fast paced action revolving around RIFTS & Invasions"
* In general, opening or closing a rift on a PvE server does not flag you for pvp
The Rift: Episode 16 Podcast Notes (Rift Podcast):
[21:47] Are there any type of PVP rewards from Warfronts [battlegrounds]?
* Yes, you can gain PVP favour which will give you access to items.
* You can also gain prestige, which will let you rank up in PVP.
* Ranking up in PVP unlocks new rewards and unlocks new abilities in PVP Souls.
[23:14] Can players attack the opposing faction’s city and will they drop any loot?
* Yes, people can attack each city and their leaders.
* Cities are not meant to be raid content, killing the opposing leader will be mostly for bragging rights.
* It will not be rewarded.
There will be a level 50 (max level) Warfront (battleground). I believe there will be 4-5 Warfronts. These will be cross-server.
