Study: MMO Use Declines As Social Games Take Hold In China (Gamasutra)MMO market saturation plus greater accessibility of social game titles are given as reasons. I'm guessing that the definition of what is a game is changing, which makes these big changes more understandable. A social gamer may spend 15 minutes a month of Farmville (some of course spend much longer) compared to someone who plays many hours a month in an MMO. But there is little doubt that sooner or later, the majority of the population will be 'gamers' of one kind or another.
