The List: Shortest Lived MMOs: Revisited
Over a year ago, I wrote one of the first ever MMORPG.com lists on the subject of the shortest lived MMOs. In it, we covered the top four titles with the shortest time between release and cancellation. Normally, we don’t resurrect articles but after today’s events, there is a fifth to not only add to the list, but to add to the top of that list: APB.
Sad to see games that don't make it far...all of the games on this list are post-WoW games. I beta'ed TR and tried to DL Seed but couldn't.
With the growing popularity of F2P games, you'd think more struggling games would adopt that model to see if they can survive.
Another thing that short-lived games like APB do- they shake my confidence in unreleased games. APB had a good vibe and good publicity before release. Reading a dev blog after the fact, they orchestrated things to make it look much better than it was. It's wise to be cautious these days.
