Age of Empires Online Announced (MMORPG.com)

Microsoft has announced Age of Empires Online and the beta registration page is already online. The new free-to-play game is based on the popular real-time strategy series of the same name. AoEO is being developed by Robot Entertainment. Players will begin with their own Greek villages which have the potential to become, according to the press release, empires.

* Cooperative multiplayer quests, trading, and a level-based system that lets you progress at your own pace
* Fun, approachable style and storylines
* Free-to-play experiences via Games for Windows – LIVE

Microsoft announces Age of Empires Online (Massively)

The new title also features co-op multiplayer questing, trading, and a leveling mechanic in addition to story-based gameplay. Age of Empires Online will also feature free online gameplay via the Games for Windows platform, as well as a new graphical style that represents something of a stylistic departure from past titles in the series.

Other than the leveling mechanic, I think this could be pretty cool. I don't know, maybe the leveling wouldn't be so bad. It just depends on how they implement it.

I think my wife could get into this, which would be a way for me to sneak her into the MMO world. She refuses to play WoW (or games like it) because she thinks she'll be come addicted (I know she would too).
