I'm playing on an RP server in WoW once more; the first year of the game, I played there and there was RP here and there, sure there were the hecklers and baiters but there was a certain amount of RP, even a small community. I even reported an extensive OOC chat going on in /yell at the time (can't tune that out and /ignore lists fill up) and got a response from a CSR.
Now, a few years later, I'm back and RP is all but hidden. The anti-RP folk reign supreme on an RP server.
Recently lots of OOC chatter was going on in public channels (no surprise) and a roleplayer asked people to please not do that on an RP server. The guy was ridiculed for a half hour solid by people who resembled the average 10-year-old (including liberal usage of the term 'gay'). I spoke up and asked why people who ridiculed RP were playing on an RP server and never got an answer. Time to turn off the public chat channels, I already have the names turned off.
I've noticed the diminution of RP in games over the years, I'm guessing that it will become all but extinct in public, hidden away in the odd guild here and there.
Very sad.
