The Daily Grind: Great achievements (Massively)
I'd have to say my greatest achievement in an MMO was getting to Master Level 10 in DAoC's Trials of Atlantis (back in 2004, not later on when they made them easier to do with less people). Basically there were about 10 trials in each of the Master Levels you had to accomplish, a few you could solo but most required group and even raid-level content. I remember some of the ML's having over 100 players participating. For instance, in ML 4 you had to have a raid-level operation to take control of 3 cities filled with hostile NPCs, and then take out a boss. The bosses were usually difficult to take down, requiring a certain procedure; it occasionally took hours (I'm not kidding). It took many months of effort and scheduling, and there were a couple of times when I almost decided they weren't doing, but I made it eventually. Master Level 10 in particular was interesting- it was a random spawn, and you had to put together a raid on the spur of the moment.
This all sounds insane today, but then again, there's very little in the current gaming scene that makes me feel like I earned anything at all. From one extreme to another.
Here in the States we're celebrating one of the great achievements in our nation's history -- the adoption of our Declaration of Independence! However, as we're a site that spans more than just the shores of one nation, we thought today we'd take the time instead to talk about achievements in the MMOs we all know and love. From leveling in World of Warcraft, to managing to level without dying in Lord of the Rings Online, to clicking on your own avatar 5,000,000 times in Warhammer Online, people really seem to enjoy chasing those little badges that say "I came, I saw, I did something!"
