I read the title and got excited. Then I read how the game was going to be deployed and played and got sad. Sounds horrible.

A First Look at Battlestar Galactica Online at gamescom 2010 (Ten Ton Hammer) Bigpoint plans big with a game from the television seriesGalaxy maps will allow players to check the status of contested areas. If there is a large battle going on, these areas will appear in red. From here we will also be able to see factional standing of the war going on. That being said, the game is not about winning the war, but more about winning the battles—taking control of the star systems or the resources within the star systems.Battlestar Galactica Online goes closed beta, releases new screens (Massively)Dramatic missions will help to shape the overall storyline of the game. Tactical space combat seems to be the primary focus, but avatars are obviously involved. How involved? We've yet to see. Since the game is officially licensed, it will feature sights, sounds and tons of ships from the series. The game will be browser-based, created using the Unity engine. If you are a little hesitant when you hear that, don't worry. We stopped by the Bigpoint booth at GDC Online this year, and they are doing amazing things. It's exciting to think of the opportunities, and numbers, that being browser-based might bring.First Impressions: Battlestar Galactica Online (Massively)The variety of ships is nice, allowing players to pilot anything from a basic craft to a massive CM monster. Battles felt very balanced despite the fact that some players were in larger craft. Bigpoint seems to have taken a page from EVE Online's book by making larger craft slower and easier to hit but chock-full of deadly weapons and other electronic goodies. Missiles can literally be shot out of the sky, so even their existence added some element to gameplay. One particularly large battle I was in was filled with talk of "little guys, get the missiles!" That gritty stuff really gave the game some depth.

I'm interested to see how they pull this off, I'll be sure to check it out when it's available.
