The World of Craft of Gods

“Craft of Gods” is a 3D MMORPG, based on Slavic mythology.
The world characters live in is called Akvilon, it is a huge world with 25 different maps. There are many wonderful places to discover, many enemies to fight and an infinite number of things to do.
In Akvilon, there are forests, deserts, desolate steppes, magical ancient forests, frozen icy plains, where the cold can even freeze your very thoughts. There are hundreds of different monsters and more than 70 unique creatures, including the legendary Serpent, fiery Dragons, and the slimy Kikimora. But there are also the honeyed-tongued Sirens… honeyed? Are you sure?

Characters can travel through this world by foot, but they can also ride one of their pets. Pretty much any animal can be tamed, some of them will become fast rides, but others, like tortoises, will be slow, so you need to pay attention to the animal that you want to tame. But perhaps you will enjoy peacefully sight-seeing the world from the back of a slow cow!

On every map, there are also dungeons: these are unexplored places, where Darkness has focused its efforts to attack the world. They are very dangerous places and exploring them will be a real challenge!

Finally, in the “Craft of Gods” world, there are some places dedicated to the battles between Light and Darkness. Fighting for your chosen realm is not only an honorable task - if you are successful in completing a difficult task, the Gods will recognize you as a hero, and they will give you a Demigod rank, which will enhance your abilities beyond any human imagination. But don't rest on your laurels, your enemies will do their best to defeat you and steal your Demigod rank!

Craft of Gods: First Impressions
MMORPG.com's Bill Murphy gives us his first impressions of the upcoming MMORPG, Craft of Gods.

Craft of Gods, developed by the independent studio Cyberdemons and published by the Italian company Kalicanthus Entertainment, has the distinction of being the world’s first Slavic mythology-themed MMORPG. Now, that right there can probably set the tone for the rest of the article. CoG is not a game looking to burn down the successful juggernauts already commanding the market, but instead it is a game that hopes to provide a unique take on some of the genre’s standards and provide an engrossing PvE and PvP experience on a smaller budget than that of the industry’s larger titans. And while there are certainly some kinks that need to be worked out, and some archaic systems that could use updating, Craft of Gods seems to be offering quite a few things that today’s players are asking for. The problem is that Craft of Gods may have trouble convincing many of today’s players to fork over their cash unless a healthy dose of polish is added in the coming weeks...

So far as I can surmise this early on, Craft of Gods is a compelling game that needs more time baking. It has an interesting world and lore to draw from, a great soundtrack to listen to, and plenty of interesting ideas going for it. But it also has some very dated looking visuals, a slew of things that are simply lacking polish, and feels lacking in true purpose or direction. There is a lot to like, and a lot to drive a player away. I have no doubt that the game will have some hardcore faithful who cherish its skill system and the freedom it offers. But will the greater MMO community accept the title despite its flaws? Time will tell, and we’ll have more in depth impressions as we dig further into the game.

Conculsion

There are a lot of interesting ideas in Craft of Gods. Sadly, those ideas are not good enough to outweigh the sheer number of flaws in the game. If the game were free to play, I might check it out from time to time to see if Kalicanthus Entertainment made any improvements to the issues I’ve listed. The fact that they do have issues, mostly related to the game lacking things that are considered standard for MMOGs today, is astounding. Save yourself the money and check out a book from the library on Slavic mythology instead.

Rise and Shiny recap: Craft of Gods (Massively)

I decided to try my hand at taming a mount, something that is available to players at level one. It turns out you can tame almost anything, but you cannot name it and it does not fight with you at all. Also, if you take the mount out for a spin and get killed, he runs away and leaves you stuck in a possibly higher-level area filled with mobs that continue to kill you. Once stuck, I tried using my "get-the-heck-out-of-here" power, but that didn't work because I was almost always stuck in combat. Overall, the mount taming is a nice idea but was executed with all the grace of a bovine ballerina.

I asked a lot of questions in chat to see how other people were enjoying themselves. One player reflected pretty much how I felt about the whole thing: a cool game is underneath all these bugs. It turns out he was in much deeper waters than I after purchasing the game and not being able to get off of the trial server. Once he looked in to it, he discovered he had been charged twice and still could not join the "real" server.
