LOL
It sounds like someone is spouting a lot of nonsense, trying to build up their game into something it's not.

Speaking of Skyrim! MMO Worlds should be like Skyrim (Keen & Graev's Gaming Blog)One of the first thoughts I had when I first stepped into Skyrim’s world was to question why we can’t have a MMORPG with this kind of world. I’d love to have a big, open, natural feeling world; none of this linear funneling with 30 wolves stuck in this corner or boars spawning on the same path every time. I’m imagining attributes of a world significantly larger than the one in Skyrim, but possessing all the same traits.
* Towns scattered around the countryside * A world big enough that people feel a connection to a certain area and do not take travel lightly * Random, open world dungeonsAgree with Keen here, this is why I go back to Vanguard every once in a while- I love huge worlds to explore, large vistas to admire.

another part of not taking travel lightly in Bethesda games (besides size) is knowing that some areas are just DEATH and you have to be really careful to avoid them. It makes the map that much more significant. I think some old MMOs did this too.. I stumbled on scary high level stuff all the time in Asheron's Call, early WoW had vaguely contested zones with enemy players and guards on the other side of the river, Hibernia had the frontier and some weird spawns (those +++ ghosts near Tir na mBeo that only came out at night), Eve has those 0.4 and 0.0 gates that are pretty much maws to hell
new MMOs tend to group mobs very carefully so everything is simple and easy to find, but it makes the map (thereby the virtual world?) toothless/meaningless

This is funny. I actually started a list or article you might call it a few days ago about "My Dream MMO". It's just going to be what I think an MMO should have, taking pieces of different games and mashing them together to make a great MMO. I'll post it here when I'm done. It's already really long though, and it's probably only 3/4 done

Looking forward to it! That's my biggest desire, a virtual world. I want to feel a sense of large spaces, a vastness, being able to take a long time to explore a whole continent or more. Travel is often seen as an obstacle to get rid of with instant portals and such- I like travel as a feature of a game. I want to feel regional differences, local economies, a real uniqueness in areas. When Vanguard crashed and burned, I was heartbroken. A vast world, many starting areas, huge vistas...it had a great setting.

It sounds like you're going to like what I have to say then. There's a lot about community, economy(crafting based), atmosphere, gameplay etc. I'm also one of those people that feel travel is a big part of an MMO. There should be transporation, but it shouldn't take you right to your destination. UO moongates were one of the best if you ever played that
