FCC Commissioner Terms WoW a Leading Cause of College Dropouts With the explosion of educational resources available online, one might think parents would be 100% pleased with the internet’s role in their children’s lives. But surveys show just the opposite: a late 2006 survey that showed 59% of parents think the internet has been a totally positive influence in their children’s lives-- down from 67% in 2004.
You might find it alarming that one of the top reasons for college drop-outs in the U.S. is online gaming addiction - such as World of Warcraft - which is played by 11 million individuals worldwide. And all along I thought it was lack of motivation or just plain old irresponsibility! I could have been said to have been 'addicted' to DAoC for years, but I never missed an hour's work because of that. My eyes were bloodshot sometimes, but come on. I'm still irked at what gets called an addiction and what never is considered one. For instance, I've been an avid reader most of my life. I've never heard of a 'reading addiction' probably because it's a socially approved anti-social hobby And I learned a lot doing it!

World of Warcraft Restaurant Opens in ChinaSeeking to capitalize on the success of World of Warcraft in his native country, a Chinese businessman has opened a restaurant rife with artistic touches gleaned from Blizzard's MMO.
His goal, he claims, is to offer WoW fans a place to enjoy themselves and share in his affection for the game. From the recreation of Tel'drassil in the center of the dining room to the vast murals depicting artwork from the game, the attention to detail alone is evidence of that affection.
