Rolecraft: Five Roleplaying Tips From Watching The Guild (Warcry)

Chances are, if you're an avid MMORPG player, then you've heard about The Guild. If you've been living under an adamantite ore for the last couple of years, then you've missed out on the hilarious online video series that pokes major fun at our favorite gaming genre, the stereotypical people that play, and the adventurous calamities that often befall us.

While the show does much in the way of keeping things generic, in that the game the cast of characters play is fictitious (though heavily based on World of Warcraft), there are yet many things that can be learned from the show regarding ways to properly play an MMORPG, both in and out of character.

I like the keep a player/character journal idea- blogging as your in-game persona would help with character development and writing as well!

Blogging as your character would make for some interesting reads.

I actually tried the journal thing at one point. If you have a long-running character (Like Loendal is for me) it can get really overwhelming to figure out what to jot down and what not to. Eventually it just got to be too much and I scrapped the idea.

I've built Loendal's story over many years, a good portion of which was on the IRC. He has his own religion, set of moral standards, history, tragedy and personality and is currently in sort of an old, world-weary warrior mode. I have tossed about the idea of having him pass away, but I can't bring myself to do it; he's got SOOO much history to him that it would be a huge loss to my RP backlog

I've written pages upon pages of book-like stuff for him, most of which I still have at home and on file. I just can't seem to figure out what to do with him now

Wow, I'd never seen nor heard of The Guild. I'm still gigging after watching one.
