The Daily Grind: What death do you usually not talk about?A physics experiment in Aion comes to mind...what would happen if I jumped in an elevator? When the elevator was going up, my jump was a little hop with very little altitude. When I jumped while the elevator was going down, however...doh! I liked this one:

In UO, a friend and I used to hunt a lot of treasure chests. This one day, there were a couple of us and we were doing a T4 chest. For those of you that don't know, T4+ chests are booby trapped with a spell that will explode and kill anyone who opens it. So you have to disarm the trap. I thought my friend had already done that, and he told me to go open it. So like an idiot, I walked over to open up the chest and KABLOOLEY! One dead Rego. They all got a big kick out of it and still tease me about it to this day.
I know of another good one too, but not my death... I wasn't tehre. A bunch of people were at fins late one night. A VW friend was pulling the mobs, while the everyone else healed, nuked, or whatever. The VW ended up falling asleep at the keyboard, at which point his finger stayed on the forward key and he proceeded to run through and agro all of the mobs. They proceeded to kill everyone.
He told me that he woke up the next morning in his chair at the computer. He logged back in to DAoC and found himself in the middle of woods, far away from the fins. Apparently when he fell asleep, he ran to the edge of the zone, then eventually auto-logged. Everyone else died from the aggro. He somehow managed to stay alive.

*laughs* Fins group stories! Awesome!
I remember being a part of fins groups that went on literally all weekend with waiting lists for people. They were that good for learning for Hibernians in their 40s.
Another embarrassing death I recall was in Anarchy Online. There was a /suicide command to kill yourself so that you would respawn at whatever cloning station you were bound to- you'd lose all your experience you gained since your last level, but it was useful if you got stuck or just dinged a level and wanted to get back to a city fast.
I was telling a fellow groupmate about this concept, and my dialogue went something like this: "You type /suicide and you will respawn at your bind point." Unfortunately, my words never got past the "/suicide" part >.< Lost some dignity and some experience on that one.

I remember when I was first starting in WoW I fell off of a cliff in elf lands and plummeted to my death... and my corpse ended up on the side of the cliff overlooking the sea. I remember my spirit jumping off the cliff and trying to time the resurrect so that I could capture my body on the way down without my body then just falling again to another death. After a few tries I ended up in the ocean...and then proceeded to drown in the deep water. I was brand new to the game at that time...but I finally got the mechanics figured out and retrieved myself. The subsequent repair bill was ....uh....very big. It took most of the coin I had on that young character. After that I was very wary of cliffs in WoW. LOL

Really the question for me is what stupid stuff have I done with Kul and lived...
The death I hated was in Vanguard, Kul the bard had a levitation song so we could jump off anything and just float down, but floating took forever if you didn't move, so as you were floating down you'd run mostly in place since you were floating, but what would always happen is I'd get out of range of the levitation song and *boom* I'd fall to my death.
The day I got a levitation cloak was a beautiful day...walking on the dirt is for suckers.

The number of corpse retrieval stories I have from Diablo II is almost endless. I remember one time a full group of us wiped in the Chaos Sanctuary while trying to unlock The Lord of Terror's seals. Well, every time we came back the Oblivion Knights would kill us off one by one before we could organize.
We got stubborn! By God we were going to retrieve our bodies and get that job done!! We tried everything we could, including timing our return as precisely as possible so that we could assemble and help each other get the bodies. We tried to figure out which classes should be resurrected in what order. We worked at it for what seemed like hours. Our hackles were up and it was a matter of principle that we didn't fail. I still chuckle at the memory of all those naked characters running around finding and resurrecting their corpses.
We did eventually get everyone up and alive and in gear ...but we were so exhausted by then that we all logged. We came back the next day and finished off Diablo without any trouble at all.

My favorite death...
There was a Master Level raid that Rego led on the fire island. It had several dozen people in it. We were victorious and heading back, skirting the lava close so we could quickly get to the village and divvy up our juicy loot. I noticed Rego was cutting the lava pool a little too close, so I veer slightly right... however, most of the people that were "following" didn't notice, so the human flesh train took a burning swim in hell detour. You see, he went link dead on auto run. hehehe Almost everyone died.

That was so funny though. We laughed and laughed about that! He knew he LDed, but didn't know when. His Ventrilo was still up!
