From my experience:

Step One-Go to the Phoenix Forum, click register at the top right and follow the process:
(This will also be your login/password to access the game.)

Step Two-Create a Fresh DAoC Folder and update to Live version by running camelot.exe.
(Just run camelot.exe, it will create everything for you and automatically update. Do not try to login when prompted, this is for the actual DAoC servers.)

Step Three-Download and extract all Files from the Launcher Download into your DAoC Folder:
(By default, the camelot folder is created in Games/Electronic Arts/Dark Age of Camelot. "Dark Age of Camelot" is where you extract the files into.)

Step Four-Launch DAoC using the phoenix.exe and login with your forum credentials.
(This is the only step that isn't ambiguous, misleading, incomplete or confusing.)

Heads up to the result of Saturday's maintenance! Have to download a patch:

The follow are resolutions for issues, that occurred after our maintenance on April 27th.

Error: "Some files have to be manually updated, please see phoenix_wrong_files.txt"
This issue came up after our maintenance on April 27th. Easy to fix:

1. Run the camelot.exe inside your DAoC folder and let it patch
2. Run the phoenix.exe and login

Issue: I can't see myself/group members on /map
1. Run the camelot.exe inside your DAoC folder and let it patch
2. Run the phoenix.exe
3. Before logging to the game, click on "Fix OF Maps"

In order for the fix to work, you will need client version 1.125 (visible during loading screen).
Issue: I can't craft / invalid crafting recipes / wrong recipe materials
1. Run the camelot.exe inside your DAoC folder and let it patch
2. Run the phoenix.exe
3. Before logging to the game, click on "Fix Crafting"
