Dana Massey: The Myth of Role-Playing Servers
I've liked some of Massey's previous essays, but this one is a poor one. Talk about stereotypes.
Sure, most people on RP servers don't RP- they are there for the somewhat more mature atmosphere and they see less idiotic names there (hopefully). But that beats no RP server, doesn't it?
The comments really took the author to task, I was glad to see!
Most of the so-called role-players don’t really want to role-play; that is their fiction. They want to be victims. They’ve adopted a philosophy and a completely unenforceable ruleset as their own in the hope that others will come along, “ruin their experience,” and they can whine about it. These are the people who shush you in a campus library at 10:30 on a Friday night.
