Well, I finally took the plunge and funded a couple of games in development!
This thread will be used to let folks know what games (if any) you are backing through crowdfunding (Kickstarter, etc.)- it'll be interesting to see how crowdfunded games work out. I have lots of hopes for this model- imagine games made for the gamers that back them rather than games made to make money for a publishing company. We will see how it works out!
Also, if you preorder a game, post it here if you like!

I've crowdfunded Star Citizen. Star Citizen Game ThreadThis game is the best-funded crowdsourced game in history- as of this writing, 292,721 people have contributed $26,242,380 to the game. SC will be totally player-funded, which is awesome. Chris Roberts has made a few bestselling games already, and I like the idea of a sci-fi spaceship pseudo-MMO that has avatars and planetary and space station play as well as flying through space. I've purchased the Digital Scout Pack- $30 for the most basic 1-man ship (the RSI Aurora), 1k credits starting coin, hangar discount, 2 months of spaceship insurance, digital copies of Squadron 42 (the spaceship dogfighting game) and Star Citizen (the MMO-ish persistent universe), and the digital game manual. I'm considering picking up another ship in the future- there are already several to pick from. Here's a screenshot of the hangar module download that lets you walk around your spaceship hangar and check out the ships you've bought- you can even get inside the ships, which is cool. I was able to sit in my Aurora's pilot chair and even lay down in the bed in the back of the ship (being the least expensive 1-man ship model, that's it for the interior). Sorry for the image quality, that's a shot of my monitor screen *laughs* There's no screenshot button in the hangar module yet, which is in beta.

I've crowdfunded Shroud of the Avatar- Forsaken Virtues. Shroud of the Avatar Game ThreadOK, I Admit I'm a Richard Garriott fanboy- he made Ultima Online back in 1996, and like a typical UO player, I wonder why other games haven't imitated more of the fantastic features UO has. Garriott (along with Starr Long, another original UO creator) is planning on making a series of SotA games, which strike me as being rather UO-like. One of the more interesting features of this fantasy pseudo-MMO is that you can play in different modes on the game's single shard- there's single-player offline, single-player online, play with friends online, and multiplayer online (pretty much like MMOs). Currently, SotA has 25,160 Backers who have donated $2,622,705 for the game. I purchased the Immortal Adventurer level ($55) which gets me a digital download of the game, 2 weeks early access to the game, access to alpha & beta, the title 'Adventurer' for my avatar, and a couple of documents Richard Garriott wrote in high school when he was starting to create games- a story set in the UO universe and notes about his very first game (which earned him $150k in the 1970s by the way). I told you I was a Garriott fanboy! ;D

+1 on backing Shroud of the Avatar. I am super excited about this game. I really hope it's UO: The Second Coming. If not, I give up on MMOs forever. ;D I pledged with the Royal Artisan donation ($90) to include: - in-game avatar will receive the honorific title of "Benefactor" to be proudly displayed for all to see (title visibility controlled by player)
- DRM-free, digital download of the game
- exclusive Early Bird Alpha + Beta Access (estimated Alpha delivery in December 2013)
- Immortality Fruit seed. With the Farming Craft you can plant the Immortality Fruit seed, which will bear a single fruit. When eaten, this fruit will fully heal you, and leave you with a single seed which can be planted and harvested, over and over, for all eternity. The Immortality Fruit seed can be transferred between players.
- 2-weeks, Early Skill Access to some new skills as they are added to the game.
- digital download, high quality scanned images of Richard "Lord British" Garriott's, original typewritten, high school English class essay of "The Story of Mondain in the World of Sosaria". This is the original story that was the foundation of Richard's Ultima games.
- digital download, high quality scanned images of Richard "Lord British" Garriott's, original handwritten notes for the "Akallabeth!" (yes, the original spelling included two "L's" in the title) Dungeons & Dragons campaign he designed as a teenager, and that became the foundation of his first commercial RPG, "Akalabeth."
- in-game avatar will receive the honorific title of "Adventurer" to be proudly displayed for all to see (title visibility controlled by player).
- in-game avatar will receive the honorific title of "Pilgrim" to be proudly displayed for all to see (title visibility controlled by player).
- one (1) non-combat pet (out of 3 to choose from)
- you will be privy to the game development progress before it is live! As concepts are created, screenshots are taken, and news is delivered for the game, they will be posted to a private Developer’s Blog page to which you will have access.
- full digital content of the future Episodes 2 & 3 (including Beta access to Episodes 2 & 3)!
- one (1) starter-level, indestructible, artisan's tool for the skill of your choice.
- in-game avatar will receive the honorific title of "Artisan" to be proudly displayed for all to see (title visibility controlled by player).

I donated $25 to The Repopulation's Kickstarter campaign. This is an independent sci-fi skill-based sandbox building game. The Repopulation: A Sandbox MMORPG (Kickstarter)The Repopulation game threadThis level of support gives me a Silver Membership plan, $10 of in-store credit, and access to beta, a title and some cosmetic thing. Independent sandboxes are a chancy thing I realize, but I thought that this game had a decent shot at success.
