I've kinda had my eye on this a while. It's the same game as Wings of Prey pretty much, just modified to be F2P 'MMO'ish. So a mostly pre-jet fighter plane game. There's a few limited jets higher tiers.
It's still in beta, but is basically released, since you won't be losing your progress.
There's large "tech tree's" of sorts for each country. America, USSR, Russia, Japan, Britain. Each country has a large set of planes you have to unlock as you level up.
Different upgrades can be bought for each plane, like ammo belts, engines etc.
And each slot you have a plane in has a crew. As you gain experience with planes in that slot you can fine tune how the crew behaves. For instance, my Bomber plane slot has points in the gunner areas, so my AI gunners have better aim to shoot other planes around behind me and such.
There's also some minor customization options, like adding decals to your planes.
A few different game modes:
Arcade - Exactly what it sounds like. Mostly unlimited ammo(reload time after emptying magazines). Don't have to worry about G-Forces on your planes/crew very much. And a sort of aim assist, which shows you where to aim in relation to your targets movement. Aiming is still a bit of a challenge though, even without that.
Historic Battles - Country vs Country. You have to take off from runways, you have limited ammo. Once you run out you have to fly back to base and re-arm(often a 5m flight each way). G-Forces are prevalent, I've had my wings fall off more than once turning too hard going too fast. You only have 1 life, once you die, you're out.
In all game modes, if you leave prior to the battle being over, then your points are given to you after the battle is finished. So you don't have to sit around waiting for 15m for the last 2 guys to duke it out.
Realistic Battles - I haven't tried these, but I imagine it's close to what it sounds like
Also, battles have secondary objectives, to destroying each other's planes. You'll often have to capture/hold a single or multiple bases as the tickets go down. Or bomb out enemy AI vehicles, which also shoot back, but with poor aim
The only real gripe I have with this game is the ease of use of mouse control. You're at a huge disadvantage if you're using a joystick/controller over mouse/kb. I hear a joystick is more doable in Historic or Realistic, but aiming will probably still be a lot easier.
At any rate, I highly recommend this if you're into flying games
