PAX East 2013: Marvel Heroes releases June 4th, will have PvP on launch (Massively)
Gazillion Entertainment has announced that Marvel Heroes will officially launch on June 4th, with early access early access starting May 28th for owners of the Founders pack. For those of you who just can't wait until the early access or launch, closed beta is still ongoing and has been expanded to include owners of the Premium pack.
PAX East 2013: Hands-on with Marvel Heroes (Massively)
Players will be able to spend points through their talent trees to come up with a customized set of powers for each superhero. Some powers and attributes will be more suited for PvP, while others are better suited for PvE. You can switch specs, but you'll need a special dropped token to be able to do it. Each hero also has a set of attributes that are taken directly from Marvel and are ranked on a scale of 1 to 7. If a player does gain an increase for a particular attribute, it makes that hero much more powerful. As for loot, everything is randomized in the sense that two players can have the same cape but each one has a different set of stats and attributes. There's also a certain degree of randomness with crafting too, which gives the game real depth.
Hands-on with Marvel Heroes' combat, events, and crafting (Massively)
Events are by far the best part of combat zones. For example, Green Goblin showed up while I was helping a group of players take down waves of alien-like creatures. He began to cackle and chuck pumpkin bombs in all directions. This was not a simple flavor event but a truly difficult boss encounter requiring a large group of players to work together. When one of us died (and many of us did), that player entered a downed state from which players could attempt to revive him amidst all the carnage. This feature made me feel as if death was a mere flesh wound when I was grouped with a team of other heroes.
A Mild-Mannered Reporter: Marvel Heroes' strengths and weakness (Massively)
At launch, Marvel Heroes' main leveling content will get you halfway to the level cap. After that, you can just run dailies and do group content to reach the level cap, at which point you can... well... do more dailies and group content?
A Mild-Mannered Reporter: What's the problem with Marvel Heroes? (Massively)
This is the biggest complaint I have about Marvel Heroes. I'm not upset that it's a Diablo clone, something Gazillion has taken pains to reiterate at every occasion. I'm upset that as Diablo clones go, this one is not doing anything particularly inspired or novel. It's not just a clone; it's a weak clone.
Updates have been released to the game's beta client, but none of them has added anything to make me sit up and take notice. The most novel mechanic is being able to switch characters on the fly, and even that just means going back to the grindstone because characters level independently. It saves you the trouble of logging out to switch, but it doesn't change the fact that each new hero grinds up from nothing all over again. Other than that, it's relying on the same gameplay as its contemporaries with none of their unique properties.
Marvel Heroes will allow purchase of heroes, costumes (Massively)
Who says developers don't listen? Gazillion Entertainment has reversed course on its decision to change the in-game content purchasing system of Marvel Heroes due to feedback from the community. Announced at PAX East, the change would have made heroes random rewards from in-game items only. Marvel Heroes fans, however, weren't supportive of the change, and the studio will go ahead with the original plan to allow players to buy specific heroes and costumes after the game officially launches June 4th.
Marvel Heroes early access is live, Gazillion 'looking into' compensation (Massively)
Stow those pitchforks, Marvel Heroes fans; your early access is finally, er, accessible! The Gazillion team has been slaving away trying to squash a few last minute bugs that held up the game's May 28th debut for purchasers of the Founder's Pack, but as of last night everything seems to be shipshape.
CEO David Brevik apologized for the delay in a post on the official MH website, and he also said that the firm is "looking into granting compensation for those who were unable to play yesterday."

A door to the Marvel world: David Brevik talks Marvel Heroes (Massively)
Brian Michael Bendis, the game's lead writer, mentioned the game being a door into the Marvel world. How will the game help players unfamiliar with the comics get to know the heroes?
A pretty good example is when you're playing against Kingpin and he drops a character token to unlock Rocket Raccoon. You -- and the majority of players -- may not know much about him. A year from now, he'll become more famous after the release of the Guardians of the Galaxy movie. By playing the character, you'll get to know more about him and his powers; our goal is to inspire you to want to know more about the character. We hope that the game exposes players to characters with fantastic stories of their own and that they'll want to explore some of the Marvel IP that they haven't been exposed to yet.
