So is anyone else excited for this tonight? Sadly I have to work tomorrow so won't get much time in, but I've been waiting for it for a while. The only problems I have with the game are the Online Only, which isn't much of an issue for me unless their servers are crap, and the map sizes(way too small). They've said they are making larger city areas in the future though

I know Jaema was thinking of picking this up, and so am I- Amazon has a $20 credit if you buy it there. Yeah, the online only is a bit dodgy, but what I've seen about this game looks very interesting! Sim City (2013 video game) (Wikipedia)Inspired by Google Maps and infographics,[22] data in the game is shown to the player in a more understandable form than in previous versions.[23] Animations and color-coded visual cues that represent how efficiently a city functions are only presented when needed at any given moment.[15][23] [24] For instance, opening up the water tower instantly changes the landscape to a clear world where the density of water is recognizable.[15] Or clicking on the sewage tab will immediately show how the waste of the citizens is flowing, and where the system is over capacity.[23][24] Some of the other visualized data include air pollution,[25] power distribution,[15] police coverage,[23] and zones.[24]

Wow, just great. I'm holding off on getting it now. EA is not well-thought of to say the least. What is it with organizations that get so big that they get this way?

So far it was a fairly smooth launch.
I played till 4 am, then got up at 6 for work.
It released for me an hour later than it was supposed to. They didn't allow pre-loading, so they were trying to charge and send out emails to everyone at once. People were getting their keys slowly all night probably.
I'm really liking it, though.

I pre-ordered this beauty. I'm very impressed with it so far. They really took the Sim City formula and did a great job of streamlining and updating it. I'm having my usual problems, though.. Building too fast and getting in money trouble Feel free to add me to the Origin friend list; does that go by e-mail or user name? Try Loendal if you want

I may end up ordering as I was so looking forward to it. But I'd rather miss the launch server issues that I'm reading about. I mean I put up with launch day queues and crashes for MMOs but somehow for this, it seems more irritating. I wish you could play sandbox or whatever you'd call it, off line, or had that option to switch to that.

Admitedly, the server issues are irritating, no denying that at all. However, people are so quick to rant, rage and fume, demanding money back and all that. Facebook is practically laughable; come on people, relax. It's Launch Day, there's going to be some issues.
Offline mode would be great, but so much in the game is dependent on the region, I don't know how it would work. If you look past the server issues they're having, the game is great. The playability and appearance is very cool and the game play is really smooth and fun. I think people are so damn impatient and spoiled by modern convenience that they break out the torches and pitchforks at the slightest provocation.
The game is worth playing after their server issues are fixed.

SimCity Review (Ten Ton Hammer)Pros: Wonderfully addictive gameplay. Simplistic UI hides the complicated management systems and presents data in a delightfully easy to understand way. Online multiplayer takes the series to an entirely new level. Diagonal roads are viable. Sandbox mode takes the effort out of cheating, allowing the player to just enjoy the city building aspects, ala RollerCoaster Tycoon 3.
Cons:
Requires an Internet connection to play, even in single-player. No map editor or custom regions. Queues to play at launch. Map sizes are "medium", no extra large maps currently available.
Moving away from the fact that the Internet is required for single-player mode, this game is outright delightful. The gameplay is addictive, fun, easy to learn, and takes the series back to its roots--that honest innocent fun of placing. Even if you’re not a fan of the series, SimCity offers enough to draw you in by shedding the complicated simulation aspects of its predecessors and focusing on pure city building fun.

Is Amazon still offering the credit? I was thinking of getting this for my wife and me. I've always enjoyed the Sims games (most of them anyways). EA is not well-thought of to say the least. What is it with organizations that get so big that they get this way? I think that once a company gets so big, they have to hire someone to manage this or that. Then they're even more successful, requiring more hiring of people to do this or that. All of these "this or that" things are managed by people who know nothing of video games or how to create them. They only know how to manage people, or funds, or departments. They aren't in it for the gaming, the way the company was founded and started. They are in it to produce revenue. I think the company grows so large that it forgets why it started doing what it began in the first place. P.S. If you don't want your topic derailed by my ranting in the future, don't mention EA. LOL ;D
