LOTRO 2007 LOTRO had a great scenic background for your selected character to model in front of.

Heh... I guess I should have cropped them a bit. Horizontal scrollbars are horrible.

Aion 2009 Aion's character screen was unique- full panoramic scenery behind every one of your characters in different poses, their prominence depending on when you last played them. The names/levels/classes were at the bottom of the screen. An excellent job!

EQ2 2009 EQ2's character select screen had a great background. Unlike some games, it showed your currently-equipped weapon on your character.

Rift 2011 Rift has a solid character select screen- a great background for the selected character, plus all of the information you need on your character list on the left.

Rift's is definitely nice. However, the character, the focal point of this screen, is a little small.

I never really thought about it, but yeah, the character looks rather small on the screen...

I know that secretly you all wondered, so here are some loading screens from SWTOR for (some of) my characters. ;D I never noticed much before but each has their ship in the background, so they're different: Nussicue of the horrible name: Qushe who is Vraxan's sister: Tle'rsi'husto the Imperial Agent (operative) with the lovely hat: Vrekkus, who is Vraxan's brother:
