Storyboard: The first stage of madness (Massively)Madness is a very powerful narrative tool. Unfortunately, it also gets used horribly, taken out back, and worked over with brass knuckles until it bleeds. Instead of diving into madness, players are most often more content to flirt with the surface elements, have a character who spits out funny non sequitors, or behaves with eccentricities.
Let's talk about madness. Let's talk about using that effectively. Let's talk about making a character who's something more than just a crazy happy random quote machine, someone who is at once fascinating and disturbing and quite possibly unpleasant to be around because that is what madness is.Storyboard: A second descent into madness (Massively)Processing a broken world: The important distinction to draw here is that a mad character still has a set of rules for how the world works. It's just that those rules are broken, or in some cases, outright wrong. There is a certain logical flow, it's just filtered through a distorted lens and includes a lot of steps that a more sane person wouldn't see as being even remotely related.I've RPed a mad character once. It may be an overdone type, but if done well is memorable. I remember one character who emoted Shirley Jackson type stream of consciousness that sticks in my mind to this day.

I remember when Benezetta had gone mute. She played that way, using only gestures, for many weeks!
